I miss playing volleyball.
I was always the first server,
mainly coz my position was the offside hitter
(see, I'm NOT good at volleyball...don't listen to Nancy XD)
but apparently our coach liked it that way,
coz I was the player most likely to ace my serves
they weren't very powerful, as I have weak shoulders,
but usually come through as "line serves,"
so the opponents often end up shanking the ball,
or just watch it fall right off the net--on their side XD
...don't ask me how I learned to serve like that, I just did
and the thing is, I didn't even know how to serve when I joined our dept's women's team in freshman year.
but as opening serves are crucial to how a game would be played in the next 25 points to come, I always took my time starting XD
I "inherited" a habit from one of my seniors to dribble the ball 7 times--my lucky number--so I would ace the first serve.
if I remember correctly, I once took 6 aces before my arm finally betrayed me...
today at work, I was offered the chance to open a new game in my court.
the new "game" will not ask for so much running after government officials in high heels,
but will require me arriving at the office on time, ZERO slacking off at my computer as my new supervisor would be sitting right next to me, and getting my work of the day done on time, and taking two days off per week--just like a regular OL.
I know my mother will like it, but I also thought about what would appeal to me,
coz I am the one who's gonna be playing the game, not my mom.
well first of all, I will no longer be under the "wrath" of my low-EQed supervisor
and will be entirely responsible for my performances.
secondly, I MAY finally learn how to manage my time properly,
as deadlines mean deadlines, with no exception--
no substitutions, no one to fill in for me if I call in sick.
and most crucially... I will make about NT$5000 more than what I am paid right now.
not that I wasn't "recruited" by other "agents" during this while...
there were similar jobs at a cultural magazine,
and at the most notorious yet best-selling newspaper in the nation.
but I opted out in the end,
coz they were offering me a salary that was less than my current pay....
ok, if I was seeking to become a news anchor, I would probably take the offer
but why would I accept a position that was almost identical to the position I played before for less in return?
my new "coach" gave me the impression that he was more concerned about my enjoyment of the game rather than my capability to "pass" the balls that come in my direction, as I would have to commit one full year to this team with no chance to quit even after the conventional 3-month trial period.
but hey--this was what I did in university,
there is no reason for me not to excel at it and enjoy it...
....so bye-bye to "Su Chueh-yu, STAFF REPORTER"
(how coincidental is it that I'm leaving the transportation beat with the transportation minister...)
starting in two weeks, the title on my name card will be
"C.J. Su, Arts & Bilingual Editor."
はじめまして,
どうぞ よろしく, おねがいします!
